Table Glide Options
Leg glides protect your expensive floors from marks and scratches, and generally come with metal, nylon, or felt bases. High-quality glides are safer, more reliable, and and more professional than folded pieces of cardboard! Metal base glides provide durable gliding on rough cement or carpeted floors (Replace metal base glides when plating wears through to avoid scratches.).
Nylon base glides won’t mark well-maintained tile floors, and slide easily over carpeting.
Felt base glides work well on, and protect, all hard, smooth floors. Note: The glide’s base diameter should be slightly smaller than the leg for maximum protection.
Many manufacturers offer glides with either manual or self-adjusting mechanisms. Either style will help eliminate table wobble and enhance customer comfort and safety while providing ease of table movement and protection for your floors.
Table glides come in swiveling and non-swiveling varieties, as well as various installation options. Square spring tips install into hollow square legs, round spring tips are for hollow round legs, and t-nuts work for wooden legs.
Manual Adjustment Glides
Adjustable glides, formally known as leveling glides, compensate for uneven table legs and floor surfaces. Manually adjustable glides have threaded stems of selected sizes that are inserted into the leg with adapters for hollow and wooden legs. The glides are manually rotated to adjust their height. Manual adjustment usually entails lifting the table and making minor adjustments until the wobble is gone.
Self-adjusting Glides
Remember when fixing a table wobble took a bit of ingenuity and a perfectly-sized object to prop under a leg, like matchbooks or folded napkins? Standard manually-adjusted glides require lifting the table and manually turning the glide until the table is steady. If the table is moved, the process may need to be repeated. Self-adjusting glides eliminate this work by self-adjusting based on table weight. Self-adjusting glides turn a tipsy table into a pillar of stability and safety.
